Kirchner wins at Iowa Speedway

Brent Kirchner won a heavyweight battle with Chris Wimmer to take home the trophy at Iowa Speedway in the 3M 150.



Kirchner qualified 4th in the 34 car ASA Midwest tour field.  MN driver Jonathan Eilen took the early lead and Chris Wimmer took the lead on lap 4.  Brent Kirchner then fought for the lead and took it at lap 18, Wimmer then passed him back on lap 54 and held on until the mandatory caution at lap 75.

At the half way point Kirchner said "my car was a little tight, so we freed it up a little bit, as long as I could keep the thing turning up on the high side it really came around, it got alot freer and the car really picked up more straight away speed."

Wimmer streched out his lead after the break, "he had a little bit faster car, so I let him go, but we raced clean and I couldn't be happier, said Kirchner.

The end of the 150 lap race saw a couple wild cautions, Griffin McGrath and Dillon Oliver wrecked after the lap 115 restart.  The fast timer McGrath ended up on top of the Oliver car wrecked down the front stretch.

After a couple false starts, Wimmer got the jump but then was passed by Kirchner with just 6 laps to go and held on for the win.

Chris Wimmer watched victory lane from the side and was comforted by his fiancee Jana.  He said, "I thought we had it but, my left front was vibrating real bad, I hated to see that last caution, I thought we had them covered."  Wimmer was still gracious in defeat "that was my old car, the one I won with last time here so, it was fun to battle with it."

Nathan Haseleu had a good run going but dropped back with a suspension problem with just a few laps to go.  Former winner Tim Schendel had a rough night, pulling to the garage area before lap 100.
