2021 MN asphalt driver of the year

By Jason D Searcy

Jacob Goede from Carver (MN) has been named the 2021 Minnesota asphalt driver of the year by Speed Talk on 1360 Radio, this is the fourth time Goede has won this award.

Jacob Goede #72 is a Late Model and Super Late Model driver who added to his long list of racing accomplishments in 2021.  Most notably he won his 8th consecutive premier division Championship at Elko (MN) Speedway in the Late Model division.  He scored four wins, seventeen Top 5 finishes and showed amazing consistency by never finishing out of the Top 10 in any of the 24 feature events at ELKO.  He also had success traveling to Wisconsin where he raced at Madison International Speedway and LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway where he won four features including the Big 8 series win during Oktoberfest.  Goede also had a nice showing at New Smyrna (FL) Speedway during the World Series of Asphalt, scoring four Top 5 finishes against the best national competition.  Goede was the 2021 NASCAR Advance Auto Parts weekly series Midwest division Champion and finishes second in National points, a series in which he was the National Champion in 2019.

Thanks to Speed Talk on 1360 radio and Midwest Racing Connection for the recognition and the 2021 MN asphalt driver of the year.  Minnesota does have a lot of talent on asphalt, even though we are a small crowd compared to other parts of the country, so I appreciate this award.  We had a great season overall, consistency was definitely our strong suit, but I couldn't do it without a fast car, hard work, some luck and of course our sponsors and crew - Jacob Goede

2020 MN Asphalt Driver of the year

Tim Brockhouse of Shakopee (MN) has been named the MN Asphalt driver of the year from Speed Talk on 1360 Radio.

Brockhouse has been racing the motorcycle engine powered Legends cars since 2002 and has accumulated an impressive 213 wins in his career, 14 of those wins occurred in 2020 even though numerous events were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  Brockhouse won races at Hawkeye downs (IA), Dells Raceway Park (WI), Jefferson Speedway (WI), Citrus County Speedway (FL), and his hometown track Elko Speedway (MN).

2020 was a big year for Brockhouse because he had 8 wins and won his first track Championship at Elko Speedway just edging his veteran rivals Baiden Heskett and Jon Lemke.  Brockhouse has usually not raced full-time at any one track, his only previous track Championships were both in 2004 at the I-94 Raceway sister tracks in Sauk Centre and Fergus Falls (MN), shortly thereafter he began operating the Great North Legends dealership which took him to a variety of tracks in the North.

Brockhouse also excelled in the INEX Legends National standings as he and Scotty Scott from Colorado both scored the maximum points possible and shared the National points Championship in the Masters (40+) Asphalt division.  Austin Jahr, another MN driver, was the top point scorer in the Nation in the Asphalt Semi-pro division.

The Brockhouse family had a great season all around, Tim's wife Amanda Brockhouse won the Great North Legends Elko Speedway rookie of the year title in 2020 and their 10 year old son Ayrton Brockhouse won seven races on the way to his first Championship in the Bandolero division at Elko Speedway.  This is the first time in the 55 year history of Elko Speedway that a father and son have both won a Championship in the same year.  Tim's son Jaycen Brockhouse also has the family racing talent, he won the Legends title at Elko Speedway in 2009.

When asked about the most memorable moment of the year Brockhouse said when he, his sons Ayden and Ayrton and his wife Amanda drove their cars around the track at Elko Speedway during opening ceremonies displaying the American flag,"it brought tears to my eyes and was a huge honor," said Brockhouse.

This is the second time Tim Brockhouse has won this award, he was also recognized as the MN asphalt driver of the year in 2016.

The Great North Legends shop and Brock's flooring just moved and are now located at 2401 Hwy 13 West in Burnsville (MN).

Jorgenson wins MN Asphalt Driver of the year

By Jason D Searcy

Veteran driver Conrad Jorgenson from Lakeville (MN) has been named the 2017 Minnesota Asphalt Driver of the Year by Speed Talk on 1360 Radio.

Jorgenson had an incredible year at Elko (MN) Speedway winning 9 feature events and scoring 22 TOP 5 finishes out of the 29 races in the highly competitive Genz-Ryan Thunder Car division where 33 different drivers scored points in 2017.

Jorgenson won the point title at ELKO by 52 points over Jeremy Wolff, it was the fifth Championship at Elko Speedway for Jorgenson and the tenth overall title in his career that started over 30 years ago.  His overall win total is now up to a very impressive 127 feature events.

Conrad also scored well in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Home Track Division II point standings, he finished second place in the Nation and attended the Awards Ceremony in Charlotte (NC) with his family and crew.

"2017 is the best overall racing season I've ever had, this is probably the biggest accomplishment of my career," said Jorgenson.

Conrad plans on returning to racing in the Thunder Car division at Elko Speedway again in 2018 along with mentoring his daughter Julie Jorgenson as she continues to gain experience in the Power Stock division.  "My wife said I should keep racing until I don't win anymore, so I guess were still going racing," said Conrad with a smile.

Goede named 2015 MN Driver of the Year

By Jason D Searcy

Jacob Goede from Carver (MN) has been named the 2015 Minnesota Asphalt Driver of the Year.

This is the second year in a row that Goede has won this award.  Jacob won ten feature events and his second track Championship at Elko (MN) Speedway in 2015 plus he was the fastest qualifier in every points event the entire year.  "Elko has great competition, so to do that I was pretty stoked," said Goede "going into the final night my number one goal to maintain that qualifying streak and we got it done."

Goede also was incredibly close to winning the Midwest Tour Thunderstruck93 event, leading numerous times and losing to Ty Majeski by 2 feet at the finish line.  "Thats what racing is all about, we need to put a good show on for the fans," said Goede "I don't think I've ever driven that hard the last 30 laps."

Midwest tour announcer Eric Huenefeld said it was the best Super Late Model race he had ever seen and the top 3 competitors were given lots of accolades for exciting but clean racing.  "Danny Fredrickson was right there the whole time and he got into me a little bit and then I got into him a little to take the lead," said Goede "it was all just a little rubbing, we all respect each other, it was awesome racing, if we could do that every week the stands would be packed."

Jacob gives a lot of the credit for his great success to his crew and teammate.  "Matt had a great season too, as a team we had a great season," said Jacob "our cars are very similar so we can bounce things off each other and work together to make the best set-ups we can."  Jacob's brother Matt had three feature wins even though he raced part of the season with a broken wrist on one hand and a broken forearm on the other hard from a motocross accident.

Goede not only won the Elko Super Late Model track championship but also won the NASCAR Whelen All American series Minnesota State Championship and he placed 6th in the National point standings for division I.  "It goes to show that hard work and having a fast car pays off," said Jacob.  Goede plans on racing for his third consecutive championship at Elko Speedway in 2016.

Jacob Goede named MN Driver of the Year

Jacob Goede from Carver (MN) has been named the 2014 Minnesota Asphalt Driver of the Year by Speed Talk on 1360 Radio.
Goede returned to his Minnesota racing roots in 2014 after spending much of the last decade racing in regional Late Model touring series.  Goede won the highly contested Elko Speedway Super Late Model division, scoring seven wins along the way including the prestigious Dwain Behrens memorial race.

For the first time in his career, this homecoming made it possible to race side by side the entire season with his brother Matt.  The younger Goede also had a successful year, winning two times and finishing fourth in points at Elko Speedway.  Jacob and his wife Erica had a new addition to their family with another baby girl born just after the race season concluded.
Jacob Goede was also crowned the NASCAR Minnesota state Champion, he took part in the ceremony at the NASCAR Hall of Fame located in Charlotte North Carolina.  "It was fun," said Goede "NASCAR does a great job, they treat you like royalty and it really makes you feel like you accomplished something."
Jacob plans on defending his Super Late Model point title at Elko Speedway in 2015.  "We want to focus on Elko again this year," said Goede "plus I would like to race the Thunderstruck 93 and the Oktoberfest race at the end of the year."
2015 has started out the right way for both the Goede brothers, they have been busy winning snowmobile races.  Jacob and Matt raced in seven different divisions of vintage snowmobiles at the recent Eagle River (WI) classic vintage weekend.  The duo took home five titles including the Vintage World Championship where speeds reached 90 mph on a banked 3/8 mile oval track.
For Jacob it's about time to put the sleds back in storage and start concentrating on the Super Late Model, it took him nearly a decade to win his first Championship.  He is determined not to wait that long for the second one.

2009 Speedtalk MN Driver of the year

Adam Royle wins 2009 Speedtalk MN Driver of the year

December 31 2009

Northfield MN driver Adam Royle says his seventh year in a Super Late Model was "my best season, so far."

In 2009 Adam had an incredibly consistent year, he won seven feature races and his second straight point championship at Raceway Park in Shakopee MN. He also won seven features at Elko Speedway in Elko MN and was leading in the points before the "Chase" format at the end of the season, he finished third in the point standings.

He was also awarded the 2009 MN State NASCAR Whelen All-American series championship.

It takes a team effort to succeed at the race track. Brian Johnson and Adam's father Jarry Royle did a great job in the pits turning wrenches, and for the most part, the driver stayed out of the big wreck in 2009. "That way we can work on making the car faster, instead of just fixing it," said Adam.

The most memorable moment of 2009, according to Royle, was when he won the Dwain Behrens memorial race for the second time in his career. Adam grew up at the track watching Behrens race, and winning on that night means a lot to him.

Why change when things are going well? Royal says his 2010 plans are much the same as 2009. Race full-time at both Elko Speedway and Raceway Park along with running some ASA Midwest tour events.
