Local MN racer competes at Daytona


Adam Royle from Farmington (MN) will be racing at Daytona International Speedway as part of the UNOH battle at the beach Monday Feb 18th.

SPEED TV and the Motor Racing Network (MRN) will broadcast the feature races on Monday, Feb. 18 and Tuesday, Feb. 19 from “The World Center of Racing,” beginning at 6 p.m. Central time each night. The MRN broadcast will also be streamed live at www.motorracingnetwork.com and carried by SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.

The two days of competition during Speedweeks will include three non-points special events – featuring the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and the NASCAR Whelen Modified tours on Tuesday night. The Late Model division of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will be racing on Monday and will be contested on a .4-mile oval located on the Superstretch at Daytona International Speedway.

For the first time, NASCARHomeTracks.com – the official NASCAR.com site for the touring and weekly series – will host live streaming video of the practice rounds and heat races throughout each day leading up to the main events. Royle finished third in Late Model points at Elko Speedway in 2012 but, is locked in to the main event in Daytona because of his "top 10" finish in the National NASCAR points, he had 7 wins in just 18 starts http://hometracks.nascar.com/node/228 and was the MN State Champion.

Interstate Driving School loaned Adam Royle a rig to drive down to Daytona for this big race, both he and his teammate Dalton Zehr will be sponsored by Circle Track Magazine for this event.  Zehr does not have a provisional and will have to earn his way to the 34 car feature event through heat races, and a last-chance race if necessary.

Rising NASCAR Star Kyle Larson, who will be full time in Nationwide this year is entered, 31 Cars on the Early Entry list for the Monday race http://race22.com/2013/02/daytona-lsmc-entry-list/  
Larson finished 2nd in the ARCA race on Saturday afternoon behind John Wes Townley.

In Heat race one, Royle started in the 5th row and qualified 12th in that race one lap down after avoiding a big wreck.

Royle dropped out of the 150 lap main event with motor problems after finishing only about 50 laps, he finished 24th.

Kyle Larson takes the checkered Flag after spinning C.E. Falk coming out of corner 4 on the last lap and takes home the $15,000 prize money.
