Jonathan Eilen wins ASA Midwest tour championship

By Jason D Searcy

Hampton Minnesota driver Jonathan Eilen has won the 2012 ASA Midwest tour championship.

Eilen wrapped up the title after finishing 5th place in the season ending Oktoberfest race in La Crosse Wisconsin.

Eilen finished 17pts ahead of Nathan Haseleu and Chris Wimmer was ten more points back in third place.  He becomes only the second MN driver to win the ASA Midwest tour Championship, Dan Fredrickson won in 2008.

The 2012 season for Eilen was marked with consistency, he had 7 "top 5" finishes and 10 "top 10" finishes out of the 12 race schedule, both the most of any driver in the series.

Jonathan also won the Marshfield 100 race in June taking home one feature win in 2012.  Eilen drove smart the entire year, staying out of trouble and handling the pressure of being the point leader for much of the season.

It has been a long road to the ASA Midwest tour Championship for Eilen, he finished 9th in points in 2008 and lost his brother Jake in an accident, he then finished 5th in 2009.   His season was cut short in 2010 after a serious back injury while racing at Hawkey Downs in Cedar Rapids Iowa, then he returned to finish 6th in points in 2011.

Eilen adds another note to his racing career, he was the surprise winner of the inagural ASA Midwest tour race at Elko (MN) Speedway back in 2007, a race that Dean and I were lucky enough to be the announcers of.  Lots of ups and downs for Eilen racing over the years, but in 2012 nobody can deny he is the Champion.
