Trans-Am Brainerd weekend

The SCCA Trans-Am series returns to Brainerd International Raceway for a Labor day weekend double header on Saturday and Sunday Sep 3rd and 4th.

In 2010 Minnesota native #4 Tony Ave (photo below with Jason) won by 65 seconds over Tomi Drissi and Simon Gregg.  These cars are awesome, with speeds topping 170mph and over 800 horsepower.

MN racing legend Jim Derhaag (photo below with Dean) made his 151st and final start of his long Trans-Am career, he finished one lap down in fifth place in the eight car field.

This year Tony Ave driving a Corvette is once again leading the point standings, in the six races thus far, he has four wins.  Simon Gregg in a Corvette is second in points, followed by David Jans who races a Ford Mustang.

Expect a somewhat larger field of cars this year, a new divison called the TA-2's will be racing on the 13 turn 2.5 mile competition road course with the Trans-Am series cars.  Bob Stretch is the point leader and Gregg Rogers are the top two in points, both driving Chevy Camaro's, Bill Prietzel from Wisconsin is third in the standings, he drives a Chevy Monte Carlo.

Its a unique race event in Brainerd this weekend, for the price of one $20 ticket you can watch the action at both the road course and the Muscle Car shootout drag racing.

Racing both Saturday and Sunday with the 100 mile Trans-Am race taking place at 3:30pm on Saturday and again at 2:30pm on Sunday.  Double points and double money for these drivers making for a very important event for these drivers.

The Playboy Mazda MX-5, SCCA Pro Spec racers & SCCA Pro Formula Enterprise division will also be racing.

Jason and Dean will be doing "Speedtalk on 1360" LIVE from the race track Saturday 10-11am and then interviewing the Trans-Am winners to be broadcast on next Saturdays show.
