ELKO 2025 Awards Banquet

 The 2025 Elko Speedway Awards Banquet was held at Rack Shack BBQ located at Champions Lounge at Elko Speedway on December 13th 2025.

2025 Celebrated the 60th season of racing at Elko Speedway.  The new owners Jaycen, Wade and Pat all addressed the sharply dressed crowd of racers and their guests to start the festivities.  

Plagues and Trophies were given out to many drivers including the newly crowned 2025 Champions.

All five Champions gave speeches with their division rivals joining them on stage and NASCAR weekly series representative Kevin Nevalainen.  Here is a link to each of their comments.

It was mentioned that NASCAR changed the rules so each track can only have 6 "Double Feature" nights per year as of 2026.  The schedule would be released very soon.  

It was also mentioned that the Elko Speedway Hall of Fame would be revived, and that was very well received by the audience.

Chris Marek wins at Madison

Minnesota Driver Chris Marek (photo above) wins the opening ASA Midwest Sportsman race in Madison WI on Sunday May 1st, 2011.  He was the only Minnesota driver to compete in the race.

Marek narrowly won the Inaugural ASA Midwest Sportsman points championship in 2010.

The ASA Midwest Sportsman tour currently has 8 races on the 2011 schedule, two in Minnesota.  They will compete at Raceway Park in Shakopee on Sunday May 29th and at Elko Speedway on Friday and Saturday July 8th & 9th.

Ross Kenseth won the ASA Midwest tour Super Late Model "Joe Shear classic," Minnesota drivers Jacob Goede finished 4th, Nick Murgic 10th, Nick Panitzke 11th, Jonathan Eilen 13th and Joel Theisen 17th.

ASA Midwest Sportsman crowned at Elko

Chris "cruiser" Marek won the first ASA Midwest Sportsman tour championship after finishing third at Elko Speedway on Saturday (Oct  2nd).

Marek was leading the point standings over Jay Kalbus by only 26pts going into the final race of the season.  Kalbus did not enter the race at Elko, "I was let down that Kalbus wasn't here, I wanted to try and beat him the right way" said Marek.

Chris Marek had a fantastic season with 4 wins and 9 "top10" finishes during the ten race schedule even though he had never raced at any of the tracks except Raceway Park and Elko Speedway.  "I was really surprised to do so well, to go in blind and come through that successful was a huge surprise to me" said Marek.

The Thunder car nationals ASA Midwest Sportsman event was won by Brent "freight train" Kane who won the 40 lap race by four car lengths after taking the lead on lap 14.  It was his 19th feature win this season.  "The car was awesome, I know everyone says that in victory lane, but it really was awesome" said Kane.

The entire race evening was a memorial to Elko "hall of fame" member Dan Ryan who recently died of A.L.S.  "It was emotional because of Dan Ryan," said Kane "I had a tear in my eye, and saluted him in corner number two."  Kane won the race, Steve Anderson drove the #15 car to a second place finish, Marek got third and Ted Reuvers finished fourth.

Danny Fredrickson won the post-poned Thunderstruck 93 lap Super Late Model event dedicated to Dan Ryan.  Fredrickson started seventh of the seventeen cars that took the green flag, it only took him twelve laps to move into the lead.  Fredrickson held off Nick Murgic and defending Thunderstruck 93 winner Jacob Goede to win by six car lengths.  Fredrickson told of how much he admired Dan Ryan in an emotional victory lane interview and celebration.

ASA Midwest Sportsman at Elko

An absolutely unforgettable finish of the ASA Midwest Sportsman tour feature event at Elko (MN) Speedway on Saturday night (Aug 28).

Tour point leader Chris Marek slipped past on the high side and won by mere inches at the stripe in a three way battle with Brent Kane and Jack Paulson. "It sure wasn't much, I had to look at the board to see if I actually won," said Marek.

Brent Kane took the lead on lap 18 and held on until the last couple feet of the race. His momentum was slowed coming to the finish by Jay Kalbus who was about to be lapped on the track. Kalbus cut a tire and tagged the wall earlier in the race.

Marek could've taken the conservative route and done some points racing after Kalbus had the early trouble, but instead he went for the win at the end. "Everyone was gunning for the win, I had to stay in it and ride the wall for it," said Marek "I've kind of struggled out here this year, so to come out and win this race is very special to me."

Chris Marek was the winner with Brent Kane second and Jack Paulson third, Jay Kalbus finished 13th.

ASA Midwest Sportsman back in MN

Elko Speedway will be the site of the the ASA Midwest Sportsman tour race on Saturday night (Aug 28).

This is a make-up race for the rain out event on June 26th. It will be a complete do-over for the 28 cars who entered in June, only 22 cars will qualify into the main event on Saturday night.

Former "Speedtalk on 1360" guest Chris "cruiser" Marek (pictured above) is the leader by just two points over Jay Kalbus in the race for the inagural point championship.
